FAQ.Friday
FAQ.Friday is a candid conversation answering some frequently asked questions we receive about custom home building.
Please note: These are meant to be broad overviews answering a couple of questions within each post. Some questions will be elaborated upon in a separate post in the future. Have questions we haven’t answered in a post? Reach out if you have any additional questions or would like a question to be answered in a future FAQ.Friday.
Question: Why should I build a custom home instead of buying an existing one?
Answer: Have you been looking for a new home and they’re just not the right fit? Do you enjoy walking the Parade of Homes each year, follow home accounts on social media or creep on new home listings to see new ideas?
Or maybe you’re wanting to create a home to be the hub for the way your family celebrates holidays or for what your family will look like in the next 5-10 years...
Building a truly custom home allows you to choose and select each detail. From the land and layout to each feature, function and finish - all specific to you and your lifestyle. Building a custom home gives you the ability to develop the experience you want others who will visit your home to have.
Custom is collaborating on just the right floor plan with a private patio for an amazing lake view, creating a one-of-a-kind cast stone fireplace wall to serve as the centerpiece of the home, transforming a closet under the staircase into a kids’ play space complete with a dutch door, just their size. The possibilities are endless.
Make your home fit you, not the other way around.
Question: So I get to choose everything, everything? Is that stressful?
Answer: Yes, all of the details are tailored to you. A truly custom home doesn’t involve a hubbed design center with pre-set options. The world is your oyster in the best way possible.
If you haven’t built before, know that you will be asked your opinion on details most people never imagine exist while building. You will also end the process with a home where those tiny, unimaginable details culminate into the space you’ve always wanted.
There will be moments of stress... There will be moments of excitement and joy.
It can be a long process. Stick to your original plans or you could find yourself changing your mind an infinite number of times - delaying the process and adding to the budget.
Don‘t hesitate to ask your builder questions throughout the process - as small as you think they might be. We’re human and can sometimes forget that you don’t do this every day like we do.
